Elder Cerny is our favorite missionary

We think you are so great. We went to Fuddruckers yesterday with mom and dad. Dad told the waitress that she could go on a date with you when you came home. Ha ha. You should go on dates that dad sets up. Take it from someone who knows.

We have a great ward with young married couples and old people. There are no middle aged people. There are two retirement homes in our boundaries and then all of the BYU students. It is great to have all of those old women. They know so many things. Today one of them talked about the Martin Handcart company. I thought that Heavenly Father requires us to go through so much to know him. They all knew that it was worth it and counted their experience for their eternal benefit. They were grateful to be able to get to know God in a deeply personal way. Maybe that is what happens on a mission. One pioneer lady wrote in her journal that she lost her husband and was in great despair. Many men in that company had died and one night the women couldn't get all of the tents up. She wrote that she had to sleep in 8 to 12 inches of snow. The next day the rescue party came and helped. I think that sometimes we have to sleep in the snow and the rescue party doesn't come until the next day. I pray that your new converts will keep praying and keep believing even when they have troubles or it seems that their prayers are not answered right away.

This week I got to learn about chemicals that cause cancer. There are many chemicals that are debatable, but there are some that we know for sure cause cancer. These are the chemicals that everyone knows--smoke, asbestos, uv light, etc. We talked mostly about coal tar (found in cigarettes) which is one of the most potent. The chemical stays in the cell membrane and then becomes a potent DNA and protein mutagen. It is amazing to me that Joseph Smith received revelation that helps us so much. He received it when the leading doctors of the day had no idea about cancer. There is a major physical benefit to not smoking, but I think the spiritual benefits are even greater (like being able to go to the temple). I thought it was so interesting how they have found how these chemicals cause cancer.

John is going to go to Alaska next month to go fishing with his dad and mom. He is very excited and says that he is going to catch tons of salmon for me. I hope that it is not freezing there. John and his dad are good at hunting too. John made me deer meet twice this week. It is some of the best BBQ I have ever had!

We pray that Heavenly Father will bless you in so many ways. I told John that I had a dream that they made you come home from your mission because you were TOO happy and TOO friendly. Hee hee. It was a weird dream. I know that your happiness and friendliness blesses those people so much!

Love,
Aly and John

Back from a wedding..

My sister got married in a park to a tall black man named David Washington in Kansas City, MO.
I went, and it was fun. The weather was really nice there, and they have fountains and sculptures everywhere.
I went to a cool art museum, and I didn't want to leave, they had such beautiful paitings.
David took us to eat at his mom's house in the 'hood, his friends and family were there and they are all hillarious, and friendly. We ate cornbread, watermelon, chicken, and koolaid among other wacky fingerfoods. Zeb would have loved it.

Howdy

Hi Nate,

We hope that you are doing so great. We went to a new ward and it is so fun. There are lots of old ladies because there is a retirement center near our house. John is doing lots of work on a program to model particles moving in water. That is all I know. It is too hard for me to understand. John says he thinks you are a great missionary. He is right. We are praying for you! We think that a lot can be accomplished through prayer and that it has a great power. People in the world who do not want to pray maybe do not understand the power that it has. I don't understand all the power that it has! I am always amazed by how much Heavenly Father cares about us and listens and answers our prayers.

Keep up all of the great work. We hope that you had a great birthday. I remember when Andy and I turned 20. Andy wrote me from his mission and said that we were, "SO OLD!" Hee hee. Don't worry about the watermelon eating. We have that all taken care of. We are training for the Freedom Run. I think I will do OK if John pulls me. He is a fast runner, that is, for someone who doesn't run in skate shoes. :)

We love you!
